kommentiertes Filmprogramm von Bernhard Lehner
Bernhard Lehner ist leidenschaftlicher Filmbetrachter, Filmschaffender und Dozent an der ZHdK. Er hat im selben Gebäude, im Ochsengässli 7, einen Raum als Lager für seine nicht mehr überblickbare Filmsammlung angemietet. Zur Zeit lagern tausende von DVD’s, VHS Kasetten und Filme in der ehemaligen Garage, ohne erfasst und eingeordnet zu sein. Die Programmzusammenstellung (alles Kurzfilme) ist intuitiv und situativ geprägt. Nebst Klassiker sind auch neue Arbeiten von Studenten zu sehen.

Das Aargauer Kunsthaus und das Aargauer Kuratorium präsentieren zum Jahresende die <Auswahl 10>. Im Rahmen der Ausstellung ist meine neue Arbeit  zu sehen: eine Installation mit zwei Monitore

Dépendance I und II

Der Titel [dépendance] bezieht sich auf beide Bedeutungen des französischen Wortes:
[dépendance I]: Nebengebäude
[dépendance II]: die Abhängigkeit, die Bezogenheit

Während die Ausstellung NO SHOW IS A SINGLE SHOW im Kunstraum Aarau  „Artist run Spaces und ihre Bedeutung im System Kunst reflektiert, geht [dépendance I und II] auf die gegenseitige Abhängigkeit zwischen musealen Institutionen und Off Spaces/ Artist run Spaces ein.
In Off Spaces/ Artist run Spaces werden gängige Vorstellungen von Kunst hinterfragt, Grenzen gesprengt und das Repertoire etablierter Kunstproduktion erweitert. Selten geschieht dies in der „Institution Museum“ die gefestigte Werte verlangt. Anderseits, so zeigt die Geschichte, sind die Grenzen zwischen Museen und Off Spaces/ Artist run Spaces durchlässig. Was gestern in einem Off Space /Artist run Space geschah, ist morgen etabliert und im musealen White Cube zu sehen. Die (Vor-)Geschichte impulsgebender Bewegungen der Gegenwartskunst wie auch die ihrer ProtagonistInnen wird dabei oft vergessen, verwischt und / oder ausgelassen.

Susanna Perin nimmt die Einladung wahr, den Kunstraum Aarau als Einzelkünstlerin zu bespielen, interpretiert diese aber um. Sie lädt KünstlerInnen, jetzige und ehemalige BetreiberInnen des Kunstraums Aarau, dazu ein, den Raum gemeinsam zu realisieren.

Die kontextspezifische Installation nimmt das zwanzigjährige Bestehen des Kunstraums Aarau zum Anlass, um dessen Geschichte und Bedeutung im Fluss der „artist – run spaces“ zu lesen. „Artist – run spaces“, die von KünstlerInnen betriebenen Ausstellungsräume sind nach wie vor Plattformen für experimentelle, widerständige und noch nicht etablierte Formen der Kunst. Die Definition eines „eigenen“ Kulturbegriffes, das stetige Ausloten der Grenzen von Kunst und dessen Erweiterung sind ihre zentralen Funktionen im „System Kunst“.

Der Titel der Ausstellung ist Programm. Im spezifischen Kontext von *Kunstraum Aarau,* einer der Ersten in der Schweiz, wird dies noch deutlicher. Denn erst die Arbeit von KünstlerInnen ermöglicht Anderen, ihre Produktionen zu realisieren und der Öffentlichkeit zu präsentieren. Die Ausstellung erzählt durch unterschiedlichen Materialien und Medien wie über KünstlerInnengenerationen hinweg eine mehrstimmige Geschichte.

Inhaltlicher Bezugsrahmen der Ausstellung und der Intervention im Stadtraum sind Überlegungen zum gegenwärtigen künstlerischen Schaffen sowie dessen Prozesse und Bedingungen. Im Zentrum steht die kritische Auseinandersetzung mit dem Cliché des „Künstlers“ als Entrepreneur und dessen Rolle in der gegenwärtigen Gesellschaft und Marktwirtschaft.

Idroscalo Ostia

In the framework of the workshop “Successful and Contested Self-Managed Space” I’ll speak about the current situation and self organisation in Idroscalo, an informal  settlement who has beeing partly destoied in march 2010. From my perspective as an artist beside to focus on self organisation I’ll try to focus the issue of image politics as a weapon to construct (or deconstruct) reality.

The city is the space where the reproduction of social, political and economic forms of life takes
place and where these forms of life confront instrumental political power or political diagonal. This
reproduction of forms of life represents the central site of exploitation as well as of resistance.
Resistance is manifested through production of common values and through cooperation. This
complex environment can be the key force behind the making of democracy, justice, common
values and free space. Cities can become places of post-capitalism.
During three days, the Conference on Post-capitalist City will present the common experiences
of European groups involved in mapping, planning and creating situations which escape both the
capitalist logic of production of space and reproduction of life. Some of these groups will present
their work in the form of lectures after which discussions will follow.
- The goal of the Conference is to affirm an international network of individuals and groups
exploring various forms of self-organizing in urban planning. The participants’ experiences, their
current projects and practices, will be collected in a catalogue/brochure which will be used for
further activities. The catalogue is conceived as a theoretical elaboration of practices, sorted by
the criteria of 1) method 2) tools/instruments 3) strategy and tactics.
- Our intention is to share experiences as well as create a Document summarizing our
conclusions into a general thesis to be used in further actions.
The project’s hypothesis: It is necessary to reread the processes of exploitation and resistance in
the city as well as understand the curren relations of political powers in order to create a new
urbanism, independent from the state and other political institutions. In other words, we propose
that the separation of urban planning from the state is finally conceivable. The existing
forms of production and life have already erased the border between the profession and its
beneficiaries, between planners and citizens, architects and activists. To research new aspects
of urban development is to reinvent them. Individual experience has become the key for
describing the new urban dynamics.
The Symposium will take place in Pula, a city on the Croatian coast. This environment should be
inspiring for investigating the separation of planning and state because the state has been
retreating from Pula for the last 20 years. An historical military port, the town was deserted by the
army and now offers vast abandoned areas. Most of these spaces did not integrate into
commodity markets and the accompanying system of political power, but were transformed
instead into a laboratory for new forms of living, an informal economy and autonomous production
of common values. At this moment, the size of the ex-military areas developing independently is
ten times bigger than the ex-military areas officially integrated into the dominant economic
regime.
The process of demilitarization in Pula started as a minor issue, but has subsequently grown into
the central process by which the city is transformed. As in other cities in a similar situation, here
too the same question arises: What knowledge, methods and tools are needed to establish a
new practice of city planning based on new forms of living, and to turn the existing
political diagonal in its own advantage?
The Symposium on Post-Capitalist City is a part of the 11. Multimedia festival Media
Mediterranea.

During the workshop “Public History” in collaboration with local inhabitants and with Consorzi di Valle Borghesiana, we will collect personal stories and collective experiences in order to reconstruct the history of the settlement: the construction phase, the phase of self organization and collective negotiation in within the community and with the political authorities until the formation and consolidation of this settlements. Starting from the point of view and in collaboration with the protagonists, we will develop a public presentation and visual narrative.
The other key point of our intervention on the territory is the question around the issues of (new) immigration and the processes of exclusion and inclusion as the question of the formation of a new concept of community in this very special neighbourhood.
